BRS supports payment policies for Ambulance services, including:
- Locality-specific rates
- Ground and air ambulance
- Pricing by ZIP Code
- Mileage bonus for rural ZIP Codes
- Service bonus for air ambulance services provided in designated rural areas
- Blended payment (CMS rate and provider reasonable charge) for dates of service before 1/1/2006
- “Lesser of” policy for ambulance transport services
- Special rules for when transport is for more than one beneficiary or beneficiary expires during transport
- Super Rural Bonus for ground ambulance transports originating in the lowest 25th percentile of all rural populations
- Accept fractional mileage to the nearest tenth of a mile for claims with dates of services after 1/1/2011
