Summary

An outstanding leader and subject matter expert (SME) in Reimbursement Research is sought by Burgess Group, LLC (Burgess), a dynamic, fast growing company developing and delivering premier solutions for leveraging Medicare, Medicaid and other public reimbursement information in the management of health care payments and associated data analyses. Burgess serves many of the most prominent health care organizations in the United States.

Organizationally, Reimbursement Research (comprising Medicare and Medicaid Reimbursement Research and Other Reimbursement Research) is part of the Company’s Research and Product Development Group, together with Data and Analytics, and Product Development. The Reimbursement and Research team is responsible for the research and analysis of Medicare and other reimbursement content, including payment rates and policies, for client and other company purposes. The position reports to the (Senior) Vice President of Research and Product Development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, develop and lead the Medicare and Medicaid Reimbursement Research and other Reimbursement Research teams, each comprised of Managers, Senior Analysts, and Analysts; manage the Reimbursement Research Managers and Senior Analysts as direct reports
  • Provide program leadership in defining and prioritizing the Company’s Reimbursement Research programs to ensure timely, accurate and complete content updates of all Burgess software and data products on an ongoing basis
  • Provide operational leadership in developing and optimizing the Company’s Reimbursement Research policies, methodologies, processes and tools
  • Provide an expert level of proven, overall proficiency in Medicare and/or other public reimbursement information (payment laws, regulations, policies, methodologies, and rates/algorithms)
  • Develop and maintain a high level of proficiency in all the Company’s products (software, data) and services (advisory, analytic, training/education), fostering a comprehensive view of the Company’s offerings and their inter-relationships, and internal collaboration
  • Mentor team members in developing their own managerial and subject matter expertise
  • Provide leadership in the Reimbursement Research teams’ support of other Research and Development teams as well as cross-functional teams -– e.g., the support of Customer Support through researching and answering clients’ reimbursement-related questions, the support of Data and Analytics through summarization and presentation of new or updated reimbursement data/content, etc.
  • Represent the Reimbursement Research teams at the Research and Development Group level and/or Company level, contributing to the strategic and tactical planning and initiatives
  • Serve as Company spokesperson on reimbursement research matters at external (client and industry) events

Prerequisites

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in public health, economics, public policy, business/management, or similar field
  • Over 10 years of professional experience in health care, and proficiency with health care reimbursement-related terminology, issues and data; strong familiarity with CMS (Medicare and/or Medicaid) reimbursement systems and methodologies, preferred
  • Recognized prior expertise in a specific reimbursement arena
  • Proven commitment to all-around academic and professional excellence, service orientation and attention to detail
  • Demonstrated proficiency in program/project management
  • Proven effectiveness in collaborating with diverse organizational groups and individuals
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to functional and cross-functional policies and processes of an organization
  • Proven ability to develop, lead, mentor and manage teams of experienced research professionals
  • Proven ability to contribute to strategic and leadership initiatives across groups and departments (e.g., on departmental or company-wide committees)
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate in all forms and formats
  • Facility in using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) software applications
  • Facility in using various Web-based and other research sources and tools
